La Casita X is Finished

With Antonio's help we were able to complete the rest of the PVC corrugated roofing.  The last step is the installation of the exterior Trespa cladding which arrived with great fanfare on a big truck during the last week of school.  The students mobilized into action and moved the 200 lb panels off the truck and onto the school grounds.  Today we finally get to see those panels put into place.  It's going to take a lot of cutting, fitting and fastening but the finished results will be worth it.  Thanks again to Trespa for this amazing donation!

I just want to thank everyone who has donated to the project La Casita X without your donations we wouldn't have done this without you. I also want to thank my teacher Ms.Barraza and the architect Ms.Swedell for letting us participate in a big project like this one and I want to thank my friends, the best team I've been in and for having a good time with you guys. Yo creo que este proyecto es una buena inversión de tiempo de nosotros porque es un buen proyecto que todos en nuestra clase y escuela están dispuestos a dar su tiempo ayudando a construir la Casita X y traer los materiales necesarios. Creo que sin la ayuda de los estudiantes esta casita no estuviera  ni media terminada . También me gustaría dar las gracias a todos los que tuvieron parte en este proyecto, incluida la Sra. Jen y todos los adultos que se tomaron su tiempo para ayudar construir esta casita  y a la Sra. Barraza para dar la idea  de  este proyecto en primer lugar.

I believe that this project is a good investment of time from us because it is a good project that everyone in our class and school are willing to give their time helping to build the shed  and bring the necessary materials. I believe that without the help of the students this shed wouldn’t be close to done. I also like to thank all those who took part in this project, including the Ms. Jen and all adults who took their time to help build this House and Ms. Barraza for giving us  the idea of this project in the first place.

                    Hello everyone, I would love to thank Ms.Barazza for giving us an opportunity to get to build a house for our garden especially we learned a lot out of it. I didn't even now nothing on how to build a little house till Ms.B brought a friend of hers to teach us. I would also love to thanks the architect Ms.Jennifer Swedell she helped out in everything and in getting all the materials we needed to build our Casita X. She is one of the BEST architect ever! If I ever got a chance to work with an architect one day I will totaly go with her. Thank you very much to also my classmates for working together and not giving up. I know this took some time to build this house but we all got all the pacience in the world, well some. We also had lots of fun throug all this, I will never forget those moments with the architect. My last thank you is for the people who helped us with your donations and in building the house. Thank you very much to everyone.

                     Hola a todos, Yo quiero a gradecer a La senora Barazza por dandolos una oportunidad para construir una casita para nuestro jardin especial mente aprendimos mucho de esto. Yo ni sabia nada en como costruir una casita hasta que la senora barraza trajo su amiga para en senarlos como hacer una casita. Tambien quiero agradecer a la arcitecta la senora Jennifer Swedell por ayudarnos en todo desde principio y tambien en consejir todo los materiales para construir La Casita X. Ella es una de las mejores architecta en el mundo! Si yo tuveria una oportunidad para trabajar con una architecta yo eria trabajar con ella. Tambien quiero agradecer a mis companeros por trabajando juntos en esto y no se rindieron. Ya se que esto tomo mucho tiempo para construir la casita pero todos nosotros tuvimos la pacencia, pues unos. Tambien todos se divirtieron mucho durante este tiempo que estavamos en focados en la casita y nunca me olvidare estos momentos con la architecta. mi coneccion con la tierra

Hola, me llamo Jesús. Yo soy uno de los que forman parte del proyecto “la casita X”. La   relación que yo tengo con la tierra es ser limpio y  tirar mi basura en el lugar correcto. Algunas personas envés de tirar su basura en el lugar correcto, la tiran en la calle. Mi experiencia que he tenido con la tierra es ayudar a mi padre en su trabajo que es jardinería. Mi mama le gustan mucho los rosales. algunas veces me pide que le ayude a cortar las rosas para ponerlas en una jarra con agua.

Plantas que son importante culturalmente para mi?

Las plantas que son importante para mi cultura es hoja  de plátano para los tamales.

With this blog I want to thank all who contributed to our dream of Spanish class. for me this project was something I never thought I was going to do but to my surprise so great La Casita X is ready, which taught me to anything that you set in  your mind and have faith you can do it , I love being a bit of this project Ms.Jenn thank you very much for everything you did and ms.Baraza are a great people who encourage us to follow our dreams. like all of my class saw I was one of the people who saw this project was unreachable for something that would be built in a week we had neither money to La Casita X, but we did it and now we have a place were to put our stuff .
thank you very much for showing what to be capable of achieving what we set in life .

Team Work

I think that this project has brought my class together, we weren't that close as how much we are now. Ever since we all got really close I feel like they are my second family even though we come to some disagreements but together we come out with a solution. When it comes to working together at the garden we would always have the best time of our lives. Every Friday when we would get together to plan the shed that would be the time when we actually got together as a team, learning how to be a team and accomplish our goal of building a shed, together we made it and now that its coming the end of building the shed I'm seriously going to miss getting together and plan to build the shed.

Yo pienso que este proyecto nos ha unido más cada vez cuando trabajábamos en la casita x. El proyecto nos ha unido más y más que ciento que mis compañeros y mi maestra son como mi segunda familia aunque a veces no estamos de acuerdo en unas cosas pero juntos como un equipo nos ponemos de acuerdo para que el proyecto salga bien como plañíamos. Cada viernes cuando nos juntábamos ese era el tiempo cuando mas somos como un equipo, aprendimos como trabaja todos juntos y cumplimos con nuestras metas de construir una casa para el jardín y ahora que se esta acercando al final de este proyecto voy a extrañar mucho cuando nos juntábamos y planiar el proyecto La Casitia X.

The power of La Casita X

La Casita X has the potential to change the way the garden looks, i think it will change and organize the garden a little more, not only will it change the garden but it adds something more to the community where it shows that us as a school getting together to build something for good shows that anybody can get together as a team and do something good for the community, for the world.

La Casita X tiene la potencia para cambiar el jardín un poco, no solamente cambiarlo pero en unir gente para ser un cambio en este mundo, por el bien de la comunidad y para que vivamos en un lugar mejor. Este proyecto enseña y demuestra de que asta las escuelas están asiendo algo bien para ser el mundo un mejor lugar, quien sea puede junta un grupo de gente y Acer grandes cosas que pueda mejorar tu comunidad.

Many things have an effect on life, may it be through influence or vibes. Things like this are transferred into other beings. There are studies on how vibes are sent out, like a raw force is sent out, and how its affects people even organisms, like plants. Feelings are just felt inside us, but around us as well. I wonder, if we embedded our garden with positive vibrations would the vibes be transcended and amplified into others?

Life, not just this community needs more positive vibrations. Inhalation of the wickedness in this polluted air is not advised for it brings influence, greed and manipulation. I hope our garden has a spirit. The spirit to live, to thrive, to conquer, and the will to fight on.

Vibes are always sent off, maybe you'll feel mine, maybe not. Maybe you'll feel the hunger I have to find my place in life, the hunger I have for growth, and the restlessness of callused hands.

Hay muchas cosas que tienen un efecto sobre la vida, puede ser a través de la influencia o vibraciones. Cosas como ésta se transfieren a otros seres. Hay estudios sobre cómo vibras se envían, como una fuerza bruta que se envía, y cómo afecta a las personas de su incluso los organismos, como las plantas. Los sentimientos son sólo sentí dentro de nosotros, pero a nuestro alrededor también. Me pregunto, si tenemos incorporado nuestro jardín con vibraciones positivas que las vibraciones se trasciende y se amplifica en los demás?

La vida, no sólo en esta comunidad necesita vibraciones más positivas. La inhalación de la maldad en este aire contaminado no es aconsejable porque trae la influencia, la codicia y la manipulación. Espero que nuestro jardín tiene un espíritu. El espíritu de vivir, de crecer, conquistar, y la voluntad de seguir luchando.

 Vibras siempre se envían fuera, tal vez usted se sentirá el mío, tal vez no. Tal vez usted se sentirá el hambre que tengo que encontrar mi lugar en la vida, el hambre que tengo para el crecimiento, y la inquietud de las manos callosas.

Not one single plant is more important than another to me. To me everything is tied into a correlated relationship, like water drilling through solid rock creating a river, nourishing the soil, making it possible for vegetation to thrive as all organisms are destined to.

Plants play a providing role in life. They provide food, materials, influence, as well as inspiration and other nonphysical things. To animals it can mark a certain place in the world and annual change such as migration or mating season. Plants bring inspiration and transcend hope and other feelings. The air, the sky, the earth, the water, the sun and the moon all contribute many things and not one thing is more important than another, that's how I feel society and life itself should be, but as in nature there are weeds and other foreign plants the absorb all the nutrients in the soil and not only steals the plants nutrients, but it strips it of the land it was rooted upon and wipes out the rest.

No es una sola planta es más importante que otro para mí. Para mí todo lo que está ligado a una relación correlativa, como perforación de agua a través de roca sólida creación de un río, la nutrición del suelo, haciendo posible que la vegetación prospere en todos los organismos están destinados a.

Las plantas juegan un papel en la vida proporciona. Ellos proporcionan alimentos, materiales, influencia, así como la inspiración y otras cosas no físicas. Para los animales que puede marcar un cierto lugar en el mundo y el cambio anual, tales como la migración o la temporada de apareamiento. Las plantas traen inspiración y trascender la esperanza y otros sentimientos. El aire, el cielo, la tierra, el agua, el sol y la luna, contribuyen muchas cosas y no una cosa es más importante que otro, eso es lo que siento la sociedad y la vida misma debe ser, pero como en la naturaleza existen las malas hierbas y otras plantas extranjeras el absorber todos los nutrientes en el suelo y no sólo roba los nutrientes de las plantas, sino que lo despoja de la tierra que estaba arraigada en y borra el resto.

Plants that are important to me

The plants that are important to me in my life are yerba buena, cilantro, bay leaf, and oregano, they are important because my mom uses these type of plants when she cooks without these plants I seriously think food would not have any taste. Other plants that is also important to me that is used as medicine is rue, arnica, rosemary, basil, aloe vera and chamomile. These plants are super important to me because every time I would see these plants and use them it always reminds me of when my mom would grow her own plants and exactly these plants she would grow she would always use them when we would get sick or when we had cuts from falling down, it brings back memories. 

Las plantas que son importante para mi es la hierbabuena, el cilantro, hojas de laurel, orégano por que mi mama los husa cuando ella cocina. Yo pienso que sin estas plantas la comida no tuviera sabor. Otras plantas que mi mama husa como medicina es el árnica, ruda, aloe vera, manzanilla y abarcar. Estas plantas son importante para mi por que me train memorias de cuando mi mama nos curaba con estas plantas.

                             Our Project that we are trying to finish has a lot to do with any community. The reason why is because this will help us learn about plants, how to make the world a better place and other things that we probably don't even now about? Like for an example me I don't know a lot about garden, plants and how to take care of a garden. I was actually excited of building a house I actually never built one before. At the same time I'm not because I didn't build anything and I didnt really help. This could help those who are struggling with the economy because you could plant fruits and vegetables. Which you could have your own fresh organic food. It's more healthier growing your own plants than wasting money in buying food at the grocery store like every two or three weeks. Planting plants is more funner and could entertain you than being at home lazy and being a lazy couch. It distracts you and for me its better being distracted than not doing nothing

                            Nuestro Projecto que estamos trabajando horita tiene mucho que ver con la communidad. La razon es por que esto los ayudaria a prender mucho de las plantas y como ser el mundo mejor y otras cosas ni que savemos. Como por ejemplo yo no se mcuho de las plantas y como cuidar un jardin. Yo estava emocionada por construir una casita por que yo nunca eh construido una. Pero al mismo tiempo no por que yo no ayude en consruirla. Pero esto puede ayudar a otra jente que estan batallando en esta economia por que pueden plantar frutas y verduras. Es mas saludable plantando su's propias plantas que gastando dinero en las tienda cada dos o tres samanas. Y pues plantando es mas divirtido que no aciendo nada y estando en tu casa como una lazy couch. Pues esto puede distraerte un poco.

I am very grateful for the donations that you provided us for the casita x because without your donations we couldn’t buy the materials necessary like the wood and the gravel. Thank you for your support you gave us you are a miracle fallen from the sky that god gave us. Now for you we are going to work harder so you could be proud of us.  para mi La Casita X al principio no se significaba nada por que no crei que se iba a poder construir en 8 dias,ha sido algo increible que me ha demostrado que cuando se cree se puede y creo que esta vez a mi me enseno que todo vale la pena si le pones esfuerzo y mucha dedicacion .es un milagro que ya apenas pasando 5 dias de lo que yo tenia planeado casi todo este listo .muchas gracias a la maestra Barraza y ala Senorita Ms.Jenn que siempre me soportaron en todo esta Casita X se significa un grande apoyo de todos.:)

 what is the importance of La Casita X for me?
  La Casita X for me at first did not mean anything because I thought it would not be able to build in 8 days, was something incredible that has shown me that when we believe we can do anything  and I think this time I taught me that  everything  is worth it if you put much effort and dedication. is a miracle that has  just past 5 days and everything that I had planned is almost   ready. thank you very much to my teacher ms.barraza and ms.Jenn has has shown me a great support trough all this time :)

                           The plant that are most important for me and my family is this plant called mint. These plants are so important for us because my mom uses them to make teas for when we feel sick. For an example when we have a stomach ache she boils it in a pan with water. I have to drink it even though I don't really like it because its super strong. Another reason is useful is when my ear hurts she grabs some leafs and rolls it up to put in my ear. It feels a little weird, but it does work. My mom used it the other time for my sister when she was pregnant because it was past her due date and she still wasn't getting any contractions or her water hasn't broke. What I'm guessing is she put if for her contractions could come soon. Mint is useful for anything, well thats what my mom said. Its actually more a medicine type. Another plant is cactus. I remember when I was like 11 or 12 years old my parents will go to a park and pick up a lot of cactus from this hill. They will go in the afternoon mostly or days when they weren't full because my parents didn't want to get in trouble. Which they never did. Years past by and my parents stopped going. I really don't know why they stopped, but my dad did get hurt once. It wasn't that bad, but he fell and he had some cuts. My mom use to tell me that the inside of the cactus the sticky part was useful for the hair. She told me that it makes your hair look shiner and healthy. I did try it, but I didn't like the smell and it did make my hair look healthier. After a weak I stopped. My parents like to eat cactus with their food. They said it tastes very good and delicious. It looks good, but when I tasted it, it had no flavor and I didn't like it. There are more plants they use, but these are the most common ones. These are the most important plants for my family and I.

                              Las plantas que son bien importante para mi y mi familia es una planta que se llama llerva buena. Estas plantas son bien importante para nosotros pro que mi mama las usava para hacer te's para nosotros caundo los sintemos mal. Por ejemplo caundo mi estomago me duele ella las irve en una olla con agua y me la tengo que tomar aun que no me guste por que es muy fuerte. Otra razon la llerva buena es bueno para el oido por que tambien mi mama me lo pone en el oido por que tambien mi mama me lo pone en el oido caundo  me duele. Se siente un poquito raro, pero si sirve. Mi mama le puso llerva buena en el ombligo de mi hermana caundo estava embarasada. En ese tiempo ya se le avia pasado el dia que los doctores le dieron sus due date. Pero luego ese dia le llegaron su's contraciones. La llerva buena su puede usar para caul quier cosa puess es lo que dice mi mama. Otra planta es el nopal, me acuerdo caundo tenia yo 12 anos mis papas se ivan a un parke y recojian muchos nopales. Ellos ivan en las tardes caundo ai menos jente. Los anos pasaron y mis papas ya dejaron de ir y noce por que pero creo que fue caundo mi papa se lastimo una ves. No fue algo grabe pero si le dolio. Estas son las plantas que nosotros usamos.

El proyecto de la casita x tiene el potencial de poder ayudar a nuestra escuela ,una por que en la clase de espanol  casi no tenemos espacio  y tenemos un lugar muy pequeno ,dos necesitamos un jardin donde nosotros podamos plantar lo que nosotros siempre hemos sonado lo cual en otras partes no tenemos la oportunidad porque ?por falta de espacio o talvez por que no tenemos algo que nos motive la casita x tiene un gran potencial que nos va a ayudar a aguardar nuestras herramientas y en el techo vamos a poder plantar flores para que nuestra escuela se vea mejor. tenemos unos maestros increibles que nos an apoyado a cada momento y la casita x nos a traido un poco mas cerca con la comunidad .la casita x aun que no lo creamos a sido de grandes retos pero juntos lo hemos sacado adelante :)



the design of the la casita x has the potential to help our school, that in Spanish class we have almost no space and have a very small place to work ,  we both need a garden where we can plant, what we have always dreamed , which in other places we dont have the same opportunity why ? for lack of space or perhaps because we do not have something that motivates us La Casita X has great potential that will help us  save  our tools and the roof we will be able to plant flowers so that way  our school looks better. some teachers have an incredible supported us at every turn La Casita X have brought us a  little closer with the community. La Casita X even if people dont  believe it it has has been of great challenges but together we have moved  forward :)

En mi opinion las plantas en la medicina tienen un roll que nos ha ayudado henorme mente ,las nuevas medicinas estan compuestas de las plantas que hasta nosotros plantamos por ejemplo,el ajo nos sirve para Hipotiroidismo.
Irritación de esófago, estómago y boca, náuseas y vómitos.
Decrecimiento en la producción de hemoglobina, vértigos, aliento  de ajo y su olor desprendido a través del sudor.
Cólicos en los lactantes, pues sus constituyentes pasan a la leche materna.
Flatulencia, dolores abdominales, ligera obstrucción intestinal, rinitis, asma, sangramiento y hematomas.Uso tópico: dermatitis por contacto, pápulas y lesiones ulceronecróticas.

y el eucalipto no sive para En pacientes hipersensibles: náuseas, vómitos, diarreas.
En niños asmáticos a dosis normales y altas: broncoespasmos.Las dosis elevadas del aceite esencial pueden producir: náuseas, vómitos, diarreas, epigastralgia, gastroenteritis, neurotoxicidad y en casos graves depresión bulbar respiratoria, coma y convulsiones en niños.
La aplicación tópica del aceite esencial puede provocar reacciones alérgicas.

In my opinion the plants in medicine have a roll that has helped us henorme mind, new drugs are composed of plants until we plant such as garlic helps us to hypothyroidism.
Irritation of the esophagus, stomach and mouth, nausea and vomiting.
Decrease in the production of hemoglobin, dizziness, and garlic breath odor given off by sweating.
Colic in infants, because their constituents pass into breast milk.
Flatulence, abdominal pain, mild intestinal obstruction, rhinitis, asthma, bleeding and bruising.
Topical use: contact dermatitis, papules and ulceronecróticas injuries.
sive and eucalyptus in patients hypersensitive to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
In asthmatic children with normal and high dose: bronchospasm.
High doses of essential oil can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, gastroenteritis, neurotoxicity and in severe cases bulbar respiratory depression, coma and convulsions in children.

After a heated debate over modern versus traditional the students decided to go for a hybrid of the two styles.  At the end of class on Friday we did a roll call for volunteers for site prepration on Saturday.  Two large compost bins and 12' of bushes had to be cleared to make way for the footprint of La Casita X.  Special thanks to Kjadija who volunteered even though she was not in the class!  Special thanks also to Ms. Harrington, Diego and Anna and her four siblings and friend for moving some earth today.

 

Choosing a Design

Each design  pulls together various ideas from the students' scale models.  The roof lines mimic geometry that the students came up with in their model, the windows, siding and roof texture all came from the students creativity.  Today we vote on which design to proceed with.
